Bite My Song

David Woehrle

A young boy bit my hip today

the skin was unbroken

and no teeth marks were left

But when it happened

I breathed out some shock and air

and said,

Ow! What did you do that for?

He said, I don’t like it when you sing

and you were singing

I wanted to say that was no reason to bite someone

but then

I realized it was

If an angry mouth was brought to my hip

every time I sang

I would learn to sing less often but with more purpose

more passion

My voice would finally understand itself
