the poem climbs through a fence
this poem starts after it looks
both ways down route 23
waits for pickup truck
and station wagon to pass
crosses road
reaches other side
considers fenced field beyond
grabs bottom barbed wire
with first stanza
and pushes down
positions next stanza under
middle wire and pushes up
bends body between arms
and lifts right foot
over bottom wire
plants foot firmly
on other side pauses
